My Mosaics Inspiration
It is often that people ask me what inspires me when I select a theme for a piece. The answer is everything around me. As I keep growing as an artist, I have learned to observe what surrounds me: the shade of a tree branch on the sidewalk, the color combination in a garment, the leftover glass I have cut. Very easy, no?
Well… no. As everyone else I struggle with what to do next. So what I do is start going through magazines, art books, greeting cards, photographs, catalogs; and if I see something that I like, I cut it out and put in my scrapbook. As you can imagine I have a lot of cuttings all over. Of course there are things there that I would not use (yet), but they are pretty to look at. As I sit there looking at all these cuttings, something eventually comes up.
Now, if this doesn’t work, I go to my favorite artist, Vincent van Gogh. Looking at his paintings there is always some detail that makes my imagination go wild; the mix of colors, certain brush strokes, the simplicity of the composition (and this is only in one painting!!! ).
Finally, if any of this doesn’t work, I will just leave it, and go do something else. Cleaning house is always very inspiring.
So now it is my turn to ask: What inspires you?
